2015 HealthONE Colorado Women’s Open | Allison Emrey

I will always remember my first trip to Colorado! I had a great host family, a phenomenal caddy, and my first professional win. I had been close a couple of times recently, but, finally cinched it! Many thanks again to the Kupchos (Janet and Mike), who were so welcoming and generous. I felt very comfortable with them from the moment I walked in their door!

The 2015 HealthONE Colorado Women’s Open was held at the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club, one of Colorado’s premiere golfing facilities, in Denver, CO from August 26 to 28, 2015. I found this tournament to be somewhat unique. Although it was not the first time I had played in a Pro-Am competition; it was the first time I competed in the two tournaments at the same time. Our threesome each day consisted of a professional competitor and my amateur partner. The first two days I happened to be paired with my former Wake teammate, Marissa Dodd from Texas. My Pro-Am partner, Mr. Jeff Dorsey, was very enthusiastic and I enjoyed playing with him as well.

The pressure of these two simultaneous competitions did not really mount until the last day of the tournament when there were so many players vying for the lead in both. Mr. Kupcho, who volunteered to be my caddy, helped me a lot. I definitely don’t think I could have won it without him. He was great out there dealing with my emotions, keeping me calm, knowing exactly where to hit it, and helping me read the putts.

The course fit very well to my game. There were holes on which you had to hit precise shots and you really had to focus on the greens. The course was in great shape. I learned that even if I am not playing my absolute best, I still have a chance to win. My game held up well under pressure which is always important.

Weather on the course was chilly in the mornings and then mostly pleasant the rest of the day except for a passing storm and strong winds at the end of the second day of play.

Mr. Mike Kupcho helped me a lot. It was definitely a 50-50 team effort.
