I LOVE Southern California in February! It was refreshing to golf on a warm and dry course! I spent the week of February 15th in Beaumont, CA for my first professional Symetra event. It was a wonderful, jam-packed week. There was so much to learn and figure out about playing at this level and a one-time rules test to complete. I was grateful that many friends I had played with in the past were there to help and advise me.
The Champions course at The Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon was in good shape this week. It is a super hilly course and reminded me of Palos Verde Golf Club where we played in college. The greens were undulated with several tiers. The pin placements on Sunday (the final day) were often tucked near the edges of the greens or over slopes.
An unusual feature of this course location is that it is nestled in a canyon with majestic mountains surrounding it. These same mountains limit the hours you can play golf. When we were there, about 5:30 in the afternoon, the sun passed below the mountains and often forced us to play our final hole in darkness.
Having this first Symetra event and all that encompassed it behind me; I’m anxiously looking forward to the April Symetra events where I will be able to concentrate more fully on PLAYING GOLF!
