I truly enjoyed this leg of the tour. My friends and I had some new and enjoyable experiences and I played very consistently over these three weeks. I am happy with where my game is at and am starting to make more birdies per round.
Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic in Rochester, New York
One of my friends, Laura (also from Charlotte), and I had fun this week. We played in a ProAm on Monday. This was a pro am in honor of Danielle Downey, she was a college golfer and coach at Auburn before her life was ended early in a car accident.
On Tuesday I attended a Women’s Forum. Two pieces of advice that I took away from this forum are: “Stay true to who you are.” and “You never know when an opportunity is going to change your life.”
Wednesday night Laura and I got to watch a yacht race aboard a beautiful yacht! It was so exciting to be on the water – a memorable experience!
The course at Brook Lea suited my game well. It was a target golf course, I stuck to my plan everyday and was happy with my play.
The weather here was super windy on Friday but very good on the other days.
Waiting to tee off on the final day with Laura stepping in as my caddie. I’m thankful for the friendships with other players on tour.
FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Battle Creek, Michigan
I had another memorable week in Battle Creek. On Tuesday I was part of a group who volunteered at a women’s shelter. During my time there, I realized that abusive relationships can happen to anyone, anywhere – and this makes me thankful of the healthy relationships I have in my life.
I was invited to play in the ProAm and was honored to play with a team of police officers.
The course at the Battle Creek Country Club was wide open with everything visible in front of you. The course played “easier” than some of the previous courses.
The weather this week was scorching hot, especially when I played in the afternoon on the first day. It was still hot the second day, however, I played in the morning and the heat was bearable.
Weather played a key part on the third day and play was suspended at 9:30 due to rain and storms (an hour before my tee time). The storms did not let up and at noon, the tour directors canceled the round and ended the tournament.
Since several of my friends and I finished our rounds early on Saturday we had the chance to try out an escape room where we had to solve puzzles and work together to unlock the room and “escape”. Then that evening we learned how to make homemade ravioli from one of the Firekeeper Casino’s chefs. Yum!
Kansas City Championship at Kansas City, Missouri
Due to the Firekeeper’s tournament being called early due to weather, I got a head start on my long car trip to Kansas City, breaking the drive up into two parts, and arriving there in time to have a practice round on Monday.
This is my first time to visit Missouri (and in the next few weeks, I will be visiting several more states for the first time.) The course at Staley Farms was hilly and pretty hard to walk. The greens were VERY sloped so you had to come into a lot of pins strategically. I gave it my all on the second day. I never gave up and ended up birding the final four holes.
For the second week in a row, the third round was delayed about an hour before I was set to tee off and then later the third round was canceled and the tournament ended after 36 holes.
