I always love being in Music City and, therefore, looked forward to participating in the Women’s Western Golf Association’s Amateur Tournament, which was held in nearby Brentwood, Tennessee. This event took place at the Nashville Golf and Athletic Club in the Crockett Springs community, in fact, the clubhouse was built around the Crockett family’s log cabin.
We competed June 15-20, 2015, a quick turnaround after being in Virginia a few days earlier. The field was strong, consisting of top-ranked players from 31 states and five countries. One of my current Wake teammates and two Wake recruits also competed. The format was a two-day stroke play qualifier followed by four days of match play between six flights until the final two contestants played a 36-hole match on the last day.
We experienced above normal heat and humidity throughout the tournament and some days brought afternoon pop-up showers.
This course was very similar to the one I had just played in Virginia, hilly with undulated greens.
